Listen to Obituary

Debra Leigh Wright, born on February 4, 1956, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky. A devoted mother, sister, and Grammy, Debbie was known for her strong personality, deep love for her family, and the lasting impression she left on those closest to her. She will be deeply missed by those who truly knew her heart.

Debbie’s life was marked by her fierce love for her family, especially her grandchildren. While she could be tough, outspoken, and at times difficult, her love ran deep and was unwavering. Being a Grammy was her greatest joy and proudest role. She faithfully attended sporting events, showed up in meaningful ways, and supported her grandchildren with loyalty and intensity. Her home was always open—no one left hungry, and beneath her tough exterior was a woman who cared deeply and showed love through presence, provision, and protection. Debbie was always there when it mattered most.

Debbie is survived by her son, Matthew Pyles (Ashley) of Paducah, and her daughter, Stephanie Hersey (Shawn) of South Carolina. She is also survived by her brothers Michael Eugene Potter (Brittany) of Barlow, Robert Gordon Potter (Julie) of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and Timothy Allen Potter of Englewood, Florida; her sister Robbin Dooley (Dean) of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey; and her sister-in-law Darla Potter of Wickliffe. Debbie’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Aydin Hersey, Emma Leigh Pyles, Evan Pyles, Jacob Pyles, Jordyn Hersey, De’ja Garvin (Ty), Jade Hersey, Shawn Hersey, Jr. (Alyssa), and Brian Liverman, along with her seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Wright; her loving parents, Gordon and Mary Jane Potter; and her brother, Dwight Edward Potter.
