Lydia Marie Darnell

Lydia Marie Darnell, born Lydia Marie Poppenga on December 4, 1942, in Pekin, IL, peacefully passed away on June 27 2024, in her home in Paducah, KY. She was surrounded by the love of her family during her final moments.

Lydia was a beloved daughter of the late Bennie and Nellie Bell Poppenga. She shared a special bond with her late brother, Bennie Poppenga. Lydia's roots in Pekin, IL, shaped her into the kind and caring individual many knew her to be.

In her journey of life, Lydia was blessed with a large and loving family. She leaves behind a legacy cherished by many. Among those mourning her loss are her devoted children: Steven Darnell (Mary) of Iowa, Christopher Darnell of Pekin, IL, Teresa Darnell (Randy Griggs) of Paducah, Donna Miller (Todd) of Paducah, and Kathy Gagnon Darnell of Paducah.

Ella Mae Sager of Florida and Katherine Poppenga of South Carolina will fondly remember Lydia as their dear sister. Lydia's memory also lives on through her twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way and her life partner, Bill Hill, for over forty years. 

The family will be having a Life Celebration Service on August 10, 2024

Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

May Lydia Marie Darnell rest in eternal peace. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
