Samuel Wade Mays

Sam Mays, 85, of Benton, KY died Monday, April 3, 2023, at Baptist Health Paducah. Sam was born the son of the late Earl and Arie Mays. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gilbertsville, KY.   Throughout his career, Sam accomplished many things and was a key employee everywhere he went.  He retired as a plant manager of a manufacturing business.  Sam worked as a welder and an electrician and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed woodworking and had made pieces of furniture for members of his family and friends.  Sam enjoyed his garden, and also  photography, and fishing.  He was indeed a "jack of all trades". 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Keeling and Goodman Funeral Home in Paducah with Jonathan Goodman and Pastor Tommy Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Marshall County Memory Gardens in Benton, KY. Visitation will be Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Sam is survived by two sons, Jonathan Mays (Jenny) of Benton and James Mays (Heather) of Benton; two daughters, Mary Jo Mays of Dixon, TN and Gina Penney (Randy) of Toledo, OH; one sister, Florence Smith of Cincinnati, OH; fifteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Hamby Mays; one son, Robert Mays; two brothers, Ross Mays and James "J.V." Mays; four sisters, Sylvia Roberts, Glenna Haggard, Jean Mahan, and Faye Henderson; and one granddaughter, Gabriella Mays.
