Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Sue Gates Council age 86 of Paducah heard the voice of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ call her to her Heavenly home on October 22, 2013 at 3:20 P.M.

Mrs. Council was a native of Ballard County Kentucky. She along with her late husband Dr. Harold Council, were founders of the Southland Baptist Temple where they ministered together for over 60 years. Sue  was very active in the ministry, she was the operator, of the Southland Day Care Center, worked in the Nursing Home Ministry and Church Nursery, and enjoyed very much the Never Grow Old Ministry at the church. She leaves behind her three children, Sherri Jeffords and husband David of Paducah, Topper Council and wife Glorious of Reidland and Nat Council and wife Patti of Arizona. One sister, Robbie Griffin and husband Bill of Benton, KY. Six grandchildren, Thad Council (Amy ) of Paducah, Missy Council of Nashville, TN., MaSherra Athenas (Martin ) of Boaz, KY. Brea Freeman ( Dr. Bryan ) of West Paducah, Jarrod Council ( Jennifer ) of Arizona and Kayla Downs of Arizona. Five great grandchildren, Chelsey Council of Paducah, Brennan Freeman, Brady Freeman, and Braxton Freeman all of West Paducah and MaKinna Athenas of Boaz, Ky, Isaac Council and Conner Council both of Arizona. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell Gates and Mary Lelia Ressor Gates, two brothers, Rev. Sammy Gates and Bobby Gates and a sister, Nonnie Thompson.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday October 26, 2013 at the Southland Baptist Temple with the Rev. Topper Council, Rev. Jimmy Franks, and Rev. Wes Conner officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. till funeral hour at the church. The family request memorials be given to the Memorial Chapel Fund c/o Southland Baptist Temple 927 Yarbo Lane Paducah, KY. 42003.
