Susan Ellegood Ray

August 22, 1953 — November 11, 2023

Paducah

Susan Carol (Ellegood) Ray, age 70, of Paducah, went home to be with the Lord just after midnight on November 11, 2023, after a long and courageously fought battle. She was at home, surrounded by her entire family.

There are no services scheduled at this time.  Keeling & Goodman Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Ray Family.

Susan dedicated her life to her family, and was a second mom to her sisters and several nieces and nephews, with whom she kept in constant contact. Her daughter, Alison, was her pride and joy, along with her adored grand-pets, Max and Nora. She lived life vicariously through her family and loved getting life updates from them all. She was a support system, an inspiration, a mentor, and a best friend, all rolled up into one. Her friends and family cherished her advice, unconditional love, and never-ending wit and humor. Those whose path she crossed, instantly & forever loved her. She was that one person you could always depend on in life.

She was a devout Catholic throughout her life, graduating from St. Mary High School in 1971. Susan and Howard opened one of the first ceramic shops in Paducah, Ray’s Ceramics on Bridge Street, where they met many lifelong friends. Susan then spent many years working in the insurance business, but her most beloved job was being a mom.

Susan is survived by her daughter, Alison Ray; her sisters, Sharon (Sid) Hales, Karen Reeves, and Lisa (Butch) Walden; sister-in-law, Cindy (Don) Corder; and step-mother, Janice Ellegood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Leo and Peggy Nall Ellegood; and brother, Michael Leo Ellegood.
