Emma Jean Mathis

Emma Ray Mathis, age 72 of Paducah died Thursday, May 20, 2021 at her residence.  She was born the daughter of the late Avery Ray and the late Emma Howard Ray.  She was a member of  the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed music and crafts, and was a member of Eastland Baptist Church in Metropolis, Illinois.

No services are scheduled.  Keeling & Goodman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  

She is survived by her daughter: Stephanie Comstock (Mike) of  Georgia; her step-sons: Roger Mathis, Jr. of Paducah, Shawn Mathis (Joann Lance) of Paducah, and Charles Mathis (Cindy) of South Dakota; step-daughter: Brandy Mathis; her brothers: Avery Gene Ray of Illinois, William "Joe" Ray (Kaye) of Arkansas, Shawn Ray (Jackie) of  Arkansas, Sheldon Ray (Judith) of Texas, and  Allen Bradbury; her sisters: Linda Holtorn (Richard) of Illinois, Opal Spurgeon (Terry) of Missouri, Doris Surratt of Illinois, Laura Devore of Illinois, Lavada Moyer of Oklahoma, Julia Ray Vann of Oklahoma, and Paula Skelton of North Carolina; her four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a former spouse: Roger Mathis, Sr. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Benny Scurlock; her brother: Stanley Ray; and her grandchildren: Nicholas Scurlock, and Jasmine Mathis.
